Different industries have different sales patterns. In the lumber industry, for example, you might find that you sell more lumber during the warmer months when people are doing more outdoor projects. You’ll want to pay attention to these sales trends and plan accordingly. If December tends to be a bad month for sales, for example, you might try to stick to a stricter budget during the month or set aside some extra money at more lucrative times of the year to be used during that month.
If you want to thrive in commission-only sales jobs, it’s important to plan ahead for leaner months. That means that if you have a high-performing month, you should be setting some of that money aside to supplement your earnings during low-performing months. While it can be tempting to treat yourself to something special with extra earnings, you’ll want to make sure you’re putting at least some of that extra money aside so you can survive a few months with lower commissions.

While salary jobs have a cap on how much you can earn regardless of how many hours you’re putting in, commission-based jobs allow unlimited earning potential.
