Product Highlights
Southern Yellow Pine
DURABILITY
Southern yellow pine is widely used for structural and outdoor purposes due to its durability and unique cell structure. Due to this cell structure, it makes southern yellow pine a top choice for pressure treatment, allowing for the preservatives so soak in uniformly and deeply. Southern yellow pine is also a very dense and stiff wood making it a great choice for framing, construction and manufacturing.
NATURAL BEAUTY
Not only is SYP a strong and durable softwood, it also has a beautiful golden tint that highlights its natural grain pattern. This makes Southern Yellow Pine a great wood for exposed features such as beams, furniture, flooring, fences and even barns. It is also commonly used for Mass Timber projects due to this combination of natural beauty and strength.
AVAILABILITY
Southern Yellow Pine has remained a popular choice in softwoods as it has many great benefits structurally, but also in the fact that it is widely available in the United States. Many plantations are used to grow and harvest SYP trees specifically for lumber production, leaving pine trees in forests to thrive. SYP trees also have quick growth spurts in their "teenage" years making them easier to grow and produce on larger scales.
SUSTAINABLE
Due to Southern Yellow Pine trees being harvested mostly on plantations specifically for lumber, this allows for many within the forests to thrive and grow. SYP is also a renewable source as the needles, twigs and other downfall from the trees help provide nutrients for the soils, limiting stresses on the environment during harvest.
