Southern Pine
Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) grows in the southern region of the United States from East Texas to Virginia. SYP is one of the fastest growing softwood lumber species. It can be planted and harvested several times during a person's lifetime making it a valuable renewable resource in the construction industry.
The majority of SYP is harvested, processed and shipped within several hundred miles of the numerous mills located in virtually every state in the South. SYP is graded in accordance with the grading rules of the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau (SPIB) and approved by the American Lumber Standard Committee.
The product is used for applications ranging from industrial remanufacturing to structural framing. Approximately one half of SYP lumber produced in the U.S. is shipped to treating facilities where it is treated with preservative chemicals and resold as a treated product. SYP is preferred for treating because of its porous nature that readily accepts most chemicals.
AIFP's experienced SYP traders offer the availability of products ranging from 1" boards, 2x4 through 2x12 as well as poles and timbers. While a majority of our sales are in #1 and #2 grade, we market low grade as well as high grade SS, DSS and MSR. We are committed to the SYP market and trade a high volume of SYP every day. This provides our traders with current market information making us a valuable business partner for our suppliers and customers.
